When I was a young lad of about 5 or 6, my family wasn`t religious. We got presents for channuka (love the sivivon) but none for pesach. Didn`t even know people gave! [think i`ll ask my parents to backdate the present giving by around 20 years]. We did get chocolate money for finding the afikoman though.
10 years later, my family became religious, still love the dreidal for channuka, and still love the chocolate money for finding the afikoman.
Now I`m married and religious, my wife got me a dreidel for channuka, and I do hope I`ll be getting chocolate money.
As for the actual seder - the only thing that has changed over the years is the depth of participation, the topics we speak about, and the level of understanding gained. Oh, and I don`t switch on the tv during dinner. |
