| Actually, the most popular theory held is that the early or proto Israelites were indigenous to Canaan and not outsiders. Neither from Egypt nor Babylon but native Canaanites. See Israel Finklestein et al.It should be said that those proto Israelites would not have been Jewish in any modern sense of the word. Many would go on to become Jews in future generations.Others would merge into other tribes in the region of which there were plenty, some would have become Samaritans and more still would have adopted Islamic customs and identities much later on. |
