With regards to the recent article in the Haaretz on kitniyot being eaten on Passover, I have a more fundamental question, that has bothered me for many years.

If the Jewish Dietary law forbids eating beef with dairy products because of compassionate grounds, dictating that boiling a calf in its mothers milk is cruel, fine - accepted!

However, why can`t Jews eat chicken and dairy products? Chickens and milk or dairy products are unrelated.

Fish and dairy products are allowed. So how about fish and dairy products- why are they allowed to mix?

While I realize that these religious customs are traditional, but why hold a large population of the Israeli public who are secular in outlook as prisoners to such unacceptable, irrational, if traditional practices???
