"jewish identities remained unknown as they practiced their religion in secret"... there`s a little known fact that MANY hispanic settlers in mexico, and what is now the american southwest, where of jewish background. ostentatiously, they were of course catholic, but in the privacy of their homes they were jewish, and practiced jewish rites and religion. google it in various ways, and you`ll find a few sources...unfortunately, it hasn`t been researched very extensively. but there`s enough to lend a bit of credence to kritzler`s explanation that they practiced their religion in secrecy; because THAT`S what was actually done by jewish colonists to the new world from spain during that time. |
