Paradoxically, second Lebanon War turned out to be a success. First, Nasrallah promised hot summer in 2007, then threatened to open second front if Israel launches ground offensive in Gaza. But when, during final days of Cast Lead rockets were launched, he resembled a small boy saying: its not me. Hizballah now possesses more weapons? True. It sits once again on Israeli border? True. Kuntar released? True. But that is rather because neither Hizballah, nor Lebanon, Syria or Iran, nor UNIFIL were unable and unwilling to implement 1701 anyway. Look what Arabs have to say about Nasrallahs adventurism. http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1§ion=0&article=82902&d=29&m=8&y=2006 Nasrallah is cautious now because he has much to lose, especially in the light of the incoming elections. It is due to his 2006 experience the border is being the calmest in 40 years. Let us hope it will stay that way. And if not, let us hope Israeli government has enough guts to held Lebanon government accountable. |
