| The Israeli army, based on these testimonies, did not commit misconduct. No other army would allow the enemy population to endager soldiers` lives by waiting for them to kidnap them. And kidnapping was Hamas`s STATED goal. They were not shy about their plans. The least Israel could do was to view all residents of Gaza as potential sources of harm, as they would very much like to be anyhow, and treat them accordingly. Of course, nobody likes to see other human beings killed--except Hamas, perhaps, who did not care about their own civilians. They made every citizen of Gaza a potential source of threat. The commander was right: when making a mistake, it is, indeed, better to risk one of the enemy`s lives than an Israeli soldier`s life. This is how the Arabs would operate; Israel can afford to do no differently. |
