"We will never forgive you for making us kill your children"
Ask an abusive father or one who batters his wife or another who kills animals in unexpained rage and release, and all without exception will tell you that the victims made them do it...the victim is responsible for unleasing their violence and aggression.
As a paramedic in the first Intafada, I saw it all coming. I confronted the abusers, formally protested, took part in Israel news documentaries,put my neck on the line, so that we would be the most moral army in the world, because I do love Israel and never wanted us to lose our humanity in our struggle for survival. I have criticized Gideon Levy in the past for his excesses. Today I am humbled and ashamed by the stark brutality of of his truth. I really tried, Gideon, and now I see I as an Israeli citizen did not do enough then to prevent what is happening now to many of our finest young men. This indeed is the time of our own "Sorrow and the Pity". |
