Please accept an observation from a U.S. resident who is supportive of Israel but deeply troubled and disappointed in her, as I have been in my own country under the grievous "adventures" of President George W. Bush. I could see corruption and immorality occurring in the U.S., in part, because of Iraq. I have seen the same dynamic taking place in Israel, a country of citizens seared by the horrors of the Holocaust. From my perspective, it appears many U.S. supporters of Israel and Israeli`s themselves justify horrific action against others (i.e. Palestinians) because of the Holocaust. If I am correct, how very sad.
Perhaps Israelis feel as powerless to influence their country as I felt during the Bush years. The political and military forces seem so overwhelming.
The U.S. is in profound trouble and not just economically. We sacrificed our soul for greed and militarism during the past immediately eight years and years before that. Is Israel doing the same? |
