DPA: Abbas: No Mideast peace without Jerusalem as Palestinian capital

No one doubts that Jerusalem is important to Moslems, but Palestine is not intended to be an Islamic state. Yet even though the importance of Jerusalem to a Palestinian state is not obvious, Barak and Sharon and Olmert offered (and Arafat and Abbas rejected) a shared Jerusalem. Apparently, the Palestinian leadership is unwilling to recognize the importance of Jerusalem or Hebron or Shechem (Nablus) for Jews, because they are unwilling to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. The Palestinian leadership appears unwilling to accept that compromise is a two-way street.
