Israel usually does dismiss the stories after wars. This is perhaps the norm. Wars are ugly but they have to be fought.

But war is the wrong word for this particular episode, which was against an area that is not a country, belongs to no-one and the fighters of which are equipped by tunneling under a tight blockade. It was not analogous to the fight against the Taliban or Al-Qa`ida in Afghanistan for instance where these are local movements in a sovereign country, whose fighters have a nationality and the potential to purchase arms on the free market. Ditto Kashmir.

Moral considerations thus become paramount even without Twitter, blogs, cellphones and NGOs to tell the story to which the conventional press is denied access by the prosecutors of the-war-that-isn`t.

We must face the music this time.
