only that it`s an american ally; and as such it should not be singled out for pressure by the united states.
and just exactly WHEN has israel shown itself to be "reasonable"?
and the real kicker is his comment "the Obama administration believes that Israel is as much or more of a problem as it is an ally".
well NO shit, bolton! it`s about time that "somebody`s" administration woke up and stopped hiding the truth!
there`s NEVER been anything inherently wrong with an american alliance with israel, or with american aid to israel. what`s been "wrong" is that never ONCE have we used our position as an ally and benefactor as a means to correct a situation that even WE acknowledge to be illegitimate, unjust, and a violation of human rights. instead we have chosen to "enable" those same policies that WE, in fact, quietly condemn. it`s a glaring inconsistency in american values which has led to widespread animosity and displeasure being directed towards the united states.
and currently, with the arab peace initative in the offing, which israel has consistently snubbed, that it`s as much or more of "the" problem in the middle-east is more TRUE than ever before.
WHY, mr bolton, should the united states continue the most blatant and longstanding lapse of american values? that israel is an "ally" should be MORE a reason to "maintain" our values when dealing with it; NOT a reason to abandon them...and then help finance the very things about it to which we object!
