Was the attack on Gaza militarily successful? Has it resulted in a cease-fire, decreased support for Hamas, or made Israelis safer? No, it made the US and several other countries join together to pledge support for Gazans. A military, political, and PR disaster.
Israel politicians are just stoking the flames to no good effect. All Israel could possibly do is send missles against Iran, to be met by a multi-faceted onslaught by Iran and her allies in Lebanon, Gaza, and possibly other parties.
Israel has to look realistically at the situation, stop the saber-rattling, and let the US try to unravel Iran`s alliances with Russia and Syria. Hopefully, declining oil-related revenues will spell defeat for Ahmadinejad in the upcoming elections.
Israel`s posturing only supports his posturing. It`s adding fuel to the fire to no good purpose. |
