Actually, last I read, the Palestinian terratories were net exporters of water. (Well, not exactly "exporters" as such - Israel just takes what it needs without asking.) In fact, the general reckoning was that Israel used about 10 times as much water from the West Bank as the Palestinian residents did. (Of course, it`s possible that Israel has since depleted the water reserves totally - it`s going to happen eventually).
In fact, it`s Israel that has serious problems with water consumption. Despite strict rules on water use, and very greedy usage of water resources shared with other countries, it`s using water faster than it`s being replenished. Part of the problem is that Israelis want modern facilities and modern Western farming, and this requires a lot of water. |
