The army and the Israeli settlers have been destroying the olive trees in Palestine en masse for years - for Israeli settlements, and for Jewish-only roads, and for land clearance around both of these. When the settlers do it - and sometimes when the IDF do too - there`s not even any particular reason, beyond making the Palestinians suffer. Palestinians harvesting olives risk being harassed or sometimes even killed by Israeli settlers, with the Israeli army doing nothing to stop them. (Of course, if they thought the settlers might be at risk, it`d be a different story.) The army has even enforced curfews designed to prevent the Palestinians from harvesting their olives. I haven`t even mentioned the issues with actually pressing and exporting the olive oil yet.
