The new world economy has created new realities. Russia is an arms competitor with the US. If the US is an unreliable source, competition will fill the vacuum.
Iraq is buying top of the line US and Russian equipment. If the Saudis offer to fund them, Lebanon will not be restricted in what they buy either. The US will also be more anxious to sell as Defense becomes one of the few surviving US domestic manufacturing industries.
There is no reason to expect the US to commit economic suicide when competition from Russia and France and China will fill a void anyway. |
