| Because Jerusalem is sacred to all three of the Abrahamic religions, it must be an international city that is open all people. It would be a semi-autonomous, quasi-State that would simultaneously be the political capital of the State of Israel and the political capital of the State of Palestine. That arrangement could take the form of a joint condominium under which the governance of the city would be in the joint hands of Jews, Christians, Muslims, Israelis and Palestinians, perhaps with United Nations oversight. The rest of the Holy Land would be divided on a 2-state basis and controlled, respectively, by the Israeli State and the Palestinian State. In this way, Jerusalem would be a single, united entity but would also be the capital of two States and a religious focal point for Jews, Christians and Muslims. |
