There is no reason to delay the division of Jerusalem. This division is way too important to be used as a pawn in negotiations about other issues.
An East Jerusalem Independent Authority made up of only East Jerusalem residents should be put in charge of just East Jerusalem. It would provisionally stay under the sovereignty
Israel until a full peace treaty is reached. Only then would it become the capitol of a Palestinian State.
This way, Jerusalem can stop being battered like an abused step-child in political tug-of-wars, and other nations (like the US) can finally build Embassies. One in East Jerusalem for the future Palestinian state, the other in West Jerusalem for Israel. |
