War is always ugly. Soldiers cannot maintain any humanity because in order for them to be "willing" or even "able" to conduct warfare - i e use violence against other human beings - they need to strip those other human beings of their humanity. However, while doing so, they also dehumanise themselves.
And thus, war and occupation is not only horribly wrong or with great suffering for the occupied people - it will also, de facto, destroy the occupiers. I am very sad about the willingness of Israel to destroy their own society by allowing these atrocities getting worse, and worse and worse.... For how many more years? |
