After all, I`m still a German chemist. In 2006, in one of the classes where I taught chemistry, there was a young Jewish boy, around 16 or 17 years old. He wasn`t very interested in chemistry. But on one day, when I was loudly thinking "What can I tell you during the remaining minutes?" he said, rather shouted, as if it demanded some courage of him or as if he was thinking he was provoking or as if he was afraid of my reaction: "Zyklon B!" Strangely, I didn`t have the idea that he was really interested in the chemistry of that stuff, but I answered something like: "I know, not everything that was made by chemists was invented or used for benign aims."
Over the years, I`ve begun to hate the way how natural science is done, to make money or to kill, how scientists struggle for expensive equipments and recognition, but how unable we are to find a vaccine against aids or to see scientists before a social background: In general we only know the "scientific mastermind", even he was a nazi.
