JN: "there is the little matter of the long-term cease-fire argreement (including a reasonable prisoner exchange) between Israel and Hamas that needs to be worked out first."
And why is a "prisoner exchange" a necessary component of a "cease-fire agreement", Jeff?
It isn`t, much as Olmert and his Happy Campers insist that it is.
Hamas are right: Shalit`s release is linked to the release of the Pal prisoners, and the ceasefire is linked to the opening of borders.
And here is why:
Shalit`s release is linked to the release of the Pal prisoners, because THAT IS WHY he was captured in the first place.
The opening of borders is linked to the cessation of Qassam fire, because THE REASON WHY the borders were closed was to prevent Hamas from gaining the material to build the Qassams to fire are Israel.
If those were the two REASONS then those are the two LINKAGES. |
