| With all due disagreement with olmert on many political and policy issues, i do not undestand what the prosecutors are claiming. The fact that olmert made an introduction for an american jewish businessman to an israeli businessman, who then went about deciding whether they want to do business together, is not a crime. In fact it is probably a laudable thing that happens every day in every country in the western world. if that is all they can prove as the "pay back" by olmert for the cash donations he received from talansky, this is another case of the prosecutors in israel being more interested in headlines and scandal dramas than justice. how much police and prosecutorial resources were wasted on this nonsense when everyone i know in israel feels unsafe in his/her own home (theft) and on the roads and thousands of violations of building codes are turning jerusalem into an ugly unredeemable slum (with no slumdog millionaires in sight). i hope friedman stays on as justice minister. |
