They have not been able/willing to manage their autonomy due to the fact that the whole "two-state solution" has been an idea promoted by Arafat beginning in the late 1980s as a stage in the several-state process of wiping Israel off the face of earth.
The Arabs have attempted to do just that from the day Israel was proclaimed and failed. They set out to eliminate this tiny nation-state of the Jewish people in full scale wars, e.g. 1948, 1967; they attempted to do so via worldwide economic boycotts; through the flooding of the country with non-Jews; though political/legal means; and of course by the use of an on-going campaign of terror that commenced on 30 November 1947 and has not ceased.
Now the try to eliminate Israel by stages: Gaza was one such stage, and we see what they have done with it constructively...!!
Thus, UNSC Resolution 242, if enforced strictly is the only way out. Let Israel negotiate the future status of the West Bank with Jordan and Gaza with Egypt. |
