| No point getting indignant over that paragraph. Haredim do not serve in the army, and have a legal right not to. Israel`s political system is indeed bizarre, with the members of the parliament not sent in as representing a specific population group to which they are answerable, with election winners` policies effectively subvered by those who lost the election. Such system naturally invites incompetence, graft and corruption on the highest level, since the "elected" officials have no one to answer to. Israel`s un-representative system of government is indeed the root of a great many problems that Israel faces; there is no need to try to hide that fact -- rather, a constitutional change is badly needed |
