I love the way the officials and the media made this whole affair into a "security issue". Some went as far as comparing the UAE to Qatar, the assumption being that they are both moderate Gulf states so they both must let in Israelis. Pe`er wasn`t given a visa because she is Israeli, born in Jerusalem plain and simple.
The UAE doesn`t allow Israelis into the country because of the Arab boycott and because they have no relations with Israel, diplomatic, economic or cultural. Qatar only allows businessmen and has limited, non-official diplomatic relations. They are not the same.
Andy Ram probably got the visa because he was born in Uruguay and automatically gets citizenship there. It`s just like any Israeli with dual citizenship, you can`t get a visa on your Israeli passport but you can get it on your second nationality.
Easy... so enough with the crap about the security concerns and the Gaza offensive. |
