If Lieberman does not live up to the editors standards of liberality, it doesn`t make him a racist. Israeli liberals carry with them old policies and habits developed over generations of living in Europe -- habits of a fearful helpless abused minority who have to deal with all powerful anti-semites. They feel that an what is essentially obsequious apologetic strategy, hidden in erudite trappings, will save Israel from destruction. They ignore the rabid virulent anti-semitism of different intensities in the Middle East from Iran to Isalmist Turkey to the moslims of Europe. It doesn`t fit in with their narrative -- an anti-semitism which is boldly and shamelessly practiced by many.
A case can surely be made for Liebermand`s positions; the Israeli public has been battered about by such liberals -- and are saying "that`s enough". |
