| i must disagree with you that a lie must involve malice. such a definition of a lie is legalistic and supposes intent. however, that which is built on delusions and fiction, are lies that we construct precisely without malice. yet fiction is a lie. it makes assumptions that are often false about reality and truth which are not necessarily warranted. fiction is open to interpretation for this very reason. we know at most that hamlet killed his father, but we do not know why, nor do we know what the author wanted us to believe, nor even whether he was aware that he wanted us to believe a certain truth. |
