1. In 1967 war, Israel was acting in self-defense. Egypt alone provided Israel with 3 separate casus belli, that are closure of Tiran Straits and blockade of Eilat port, massing of troops in Sinai, and ejection of UNEF. 2. Resolution 242 declares that the establishment of a just and lasting peace in the ME suggests withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied. Intentional omission of the words ALL THE from the only official English version implies that Israel is NOT required to retreat to the boundaries before 1967. ONLY NEGOTIATIONS will determine the future of the land division of the West Bank. 3. The language of Resolution 242 does not provide a time frame for withdrawal. In the absence of peace agreement, withdrawal of Israeli forces from captured territory is not required and the continued Israeli occupation of Arab territory would be legal until such event. |
