| I read, if I am correct, that the current alliance with Turkey was made in 1990; and that Israel wanted it.. That is about the time the former soviet union collapsed and trouble began flaring up in the former Yugoslavia and in Armenia-Azerbaijan, where old ethnic hatreds and fights that were being controlled by the iron fist reignited. Turkey gave safe haven to many Kosovars, I remember. Hamas would like Turkey as a mediator. In light of the many ethnic conflicts still simmering, I believe it is right to keep Turkey as an ally in the hope they will be brought under control. It is Russia who keeps many of these burning, I believe. |
