1) Turkey is an Arab state and as such will not allow itself to be judged on any Western based values. If we sleep with the dogs we wake up with fleas. Turkey` behavior past and present aside, they demand to be treated with deference.
2) They are a strategic ally so let`s pretend that point number 1 doesn`t exist and let Turkey treat us like dhimmis. The bottom line is we need them more than they need us so we have no choice.
Perhaps there is a need to reevaluate our foreign policy and move from alliances of convenience to ones based on a shared morality. |
