| Apart from the well-known fact that ALL Jewish settlements in the West Bank are illegal (since an occupying power is forbidden to transport civilian populations into the conquered territory), I fail to see how these actions benefit Israel in any way. If the Israelis ultimately want to pull out of the West Bank, what is the point of wasting billions on building these settlements which will probably end up being dismantled anyway? Is the Israeli government so afraid of their ultra-Orthodox Jews (who don`t even do military service) that they have to carry on this insane campaign to hold on to the West Bank? It is possible that the Palestinians will agree to let Gush Etzion be part of Israel, but if not, Israel will be under obligation to dismantle this settlement. |
