The Israeli Foreign Ministry has not performed well recently, spats with Russia (over Israeli support for Georgia), the Vatican (Pope Pius and Bishop Williamson) and Turkey (Gaza) have been accompanied by a failure to handle the international reaction to Operation Cast Lead in an effective manner.

Trying to pressure a U.S. who is black to prevent participation in a conference on racism was unlikely to succeed. Making reference to Bush when involving the Obama administration is not likely to go down well as his election campaign was based on `change`.

When you are in a hole, stop digging! The Foreign Ministry must create a strategy based on diplomacy, the old methods of public statements, bullying, hectoring and lecturing will no longer work and serve only to make Israel look ineffective, and even worse, irrelevant.
