It is not a question of wimpish actions by Ms.Livni. Its truly a question of Israels survival and how to meet the challenges of the future.
Nobody is sure of Israels intentions. The normal growth rate of existing settlements has already become a major International debate, mainly due to the fact that new settlements are either springing up or are been planned. Israel must tread softly on all fronts, especially with world opinion so divided and not that in favor of Israel.
The US will pressure Israel. The US has no choice but to take an even more honest broker approach to the Middle East, for a nuclear Iran is rearing its radioactive head in a manner far removed from N.Korea. The Gulf States are squeamish enough, war in that region could envelope our current civilization back into the stone age.
Israel has an opportunity to either go with the flow, or be isolated by all. Shalom.
