| While I have no more love for Netanyahu than does the author of this commentary, I take issue with his interpretation of Hillel. Having respect for others does not mean giving up your own self respect. We Jews have shown disrespect to the Arabs by claiming to give them equal rights in a Jewish State. This was a lie and an encouragement to them to take our state from us. Were this a truly Jewish State it would have welcomed Arab residents who chose to accept Israel as a Jewish State and to live here as aliens with full human, not civil rights. Hillel would never have suggested giving autonomy to non Jews, certainly not enemies of the Jewish People. |
