| This is the first Gideon Levy article I ever read that begins with a completely correct assessment of the situation. If only that astute observation would lead the author to reconsidering his own position... However, Mr. Levy underestimates the ideological differences between Kach and Yisrael Beiteinu. Rabbi Kahane`s positions were based upon Torah sources and he would never have endorsed things like civil marriage, any territorial compromise and measures contrary to Jewish law such as the sale of pork which unluckily are promoted by Yisrael Beiteinu. Y.B. is a secular nationalist party whereas the Kahane ideology is religious. That also goes for the position towards Arabs in Israel:while Rabbi Kahane referred to Torah sources to justify his stance and saw a Jewish State guided by the Torah as the ultimate goal, Lieberman relies on a somewhat simplicistic secular nationalism that is in no way different from Russian, Spanish or Japanese nationalism and also of no higher value than those |
