| I tend to agree that the two state solution can never be implemented, but from a different view point. Yes, both sides have missed opportunities, but I do find the Palestinian side more to blame for the lack of peace. While the 2000 Camp David Accords offered the Palestinians a rump state, it still offered them far more than they have ever been offered. Any Palestinian leader that accepts the end of the Palestinian right of return to homes in Israel proper will be assassinated. Arafat knew this and that is why nothing came of Camp David. The sides are so far apart with Jerusalem and the "right of return," that there will never be a true peace. Without a true peace, Israel cannot and will not make the necessary concessions required for peace. Thus we are in a vicious cycle. Also, what to do with the 20% of the population that wants Israeli benefits, but finds their loyalties with the Palestinian nation? The answer is to separate Palestinian citizenship from territory. |
