The purpose of the Hagannah was to protect the Jews from Arab Pogroms (period). If the Arabs attacked while the Jews were at prayer, then they had one HOMEMADE gun and a couple grenades (I read STUN in another paper) to protect them...

The weapons in the mosques were rockets and mortars to be used on Israeli civilians, not for protection...
Therefore, it is OK for there to be armed guards at both a mosque AND a synagogue to protect those at prayer.
It is NOT ok store offensive weapons in either a mosque OR a synagogue, especially when they are meant for civilians. |
