It is not that simple. The Israeli public opinion is flexible. It is relatively easy to un-demonize the Palestinians under the right conditions.
In the current situation the atmosphere escalates, and the leaders are too weak for making a change that will be accepted by the public opinion. Both Olmert and Barack gave up the upcoming elections and working on their comeback for the next ones.
Netanyahu could have two chances to survive Obama: (i)if Obama will give low priority to the Israeli-Palestinian problem, and (ii)if Netanyahu will look to the mobs like someone who knows how to maneuver the Americans.
