| After the fighting in Gaza ,which albeit necessary carried a high human cost for mainly the palestinians and a high diplomatic cost for Israel, Israel still emerged with a surprisingly solid international support. Thw main reason for that is the abscense of settlements in Gaza. Now is the time to show the settlers in the west bank that the jewish state is indeed a state and not some sort of tribal enterprise. All settlements outside of the understanding reached with the Bush administration should be evacuated. The army can stay till Kingdom come if the security demands it. But it would show that Israel is a partner for peace with security and not just using security to justify a landgrab. This latest panderings to the "crazies of the hills" will cost Israel support (primary American )badly needed in dealings with Iran. |
