| Israel holds all the cards, the Palestinians hold the trump card and that is the ability to walk away from a bad deal. Israel enjoyed unequivocal support from the U.S. which enabled it to navigate a maze of endless negotiations and shift its demands with every passing day. The most recent shift is the demand to release Shalit before it opens the Gaza border. Even if this is accomplished, Israel will invent new demands. If the U.S. administration follows a policy of acquiescing to those demands, they will also enter into the endless maze. Obama needs to see through the peripheral issues and hit the nail right on the head. It is in all likelyhood, the head of Netanyahu. |
