I think people need to keep in mind what is at stake here. Violating international law is bad for everyone. Such violations set precedence for others. Fundamental here is the blurring of the line between civilian and combatant -- future generations, our children could suffer because of the erosion of international law. We are setting trends here. Trends of violations of international law that will bite us in the back later.

For those who argue Hamas does not follow human rights laws etc, well, Hamas is hardly the bastion of humanity so comparisons are moot as states are held up to international law, not terrorist organizations.

Finally, if tomorrow terrorists hold Israelis as human shields in Tel Aviv, would you suggest bombing buildings, terrorists and civilians, en masse?

If Olmert and co. feel their soldiers have committed no war crimes, why are they afraid of the law? Why do these soldiers need protection if they have done no wrong?
