| Haaretz doesn`t like to publish pro-Israeli opinions, so this one probably won`t make it. Nevertheless, I beleive Israel won the wars against both Hezbullah and Hamas in that a strong message was sent to each one: kidnap our soldiers or fire rockets into our territory and we will come after you like a raging bull elephant. Use of the milatary is a legitimate extention of diplomacy. All major states have used their military to enhance their interests. Look at Russia and Georgia, for instance; or the US in Iraq. Like it or not, it`s the way of the world. Because Israel is surrounded by so many hostiles, it must have and use its military from time to time. |
