"You tell us the way to defeat Hamas is to surrender to it!" (Chaim to A. Eldar) This is not at all what Eldar is telling us. Read him again, and again.Slowly, and aloud. It may help you, dummy, overcome your evident reading comprehension problem.
What he is telling us is that time is long overdue to adopt an approach different from the one we have desperately tried, for 41 years, and to allow someone else to do the "dirty work", better qualified than us for this kind of job: An authoritative Palestinian ruler. For a price, of course: The end of the occupation, and Palestinian independence.
Think only, if you know how this done, of king Hussein and Black September, 1970, or of Hafez al-Assad and the Hama massacre, February 1982. Had their land been then occupied by a foreign army, and their country sowed all over with foreign settlements, they would have been utterly incapable to act as they did. Even our Ben Gurion was, until the last British soldier had left, and he could effectively tame his own radical factions.
Do yourself a favor and buy a good history book. Here is one, specially published, most apparently, for you and your kind: "The Complete Idiot`s Guide to Middle East Conflict", by Mitchell Geoffrey Bard. |
