Israel is "strong" since 1973, but never ever have we seen an Israeli push for a fair peace with the Arab neighbours (okay, if we wanna be generous, we can take Baraks offer from Camp David 2000 as an exception, but even this one came only after Clinton taking the initia- tive).
Which has led to the overwhelming perception around the world, that there is only one thing that will "convince" a majority of Israelis to accept a fair compromise on ALL 3 core issues:
Massive diplomatical and (hopefully not nece- ssary) economical pressure from the outside world.
I am fully convinced that many world leaders (and not only in Europe) believe the same today, even if they aren`t willing/able to state it publicly.
And after having spent 2 years on Haaretz TB, I must admit that I also have become a "true believer" of that view.... |
