Obama will be limited in what he can do anyway. The Israeli right wing does have great influence in Congress, but not unlimited influence.
Right now, it would be very difficult to get any appropriation through for additional aid to Palestinians, especially in the $Billions needed for reconstruction in Gaza. The cupboard is kinda bare already and the Lobby has Congress convinced that somehow the money would get to Hamas, anyway. Obama might even forgo asking for money for the PA at all. I doesn`t seem to have done anything towards getting closer to a two-state solution.
Obama does believe in dialog. So we`ll probably see some effort to bridge differences. But if Bibi wants money for Palestinians` economic or political development he may have to up-front some himself, first - Just to show the Israel is investing in something more than defense and expansion. |
