were YOU in assad`s place cipora, would YOU declare to the world any intention of breaking of ties with iran...BEFORE you had secured any pact and military assurances from the united states? until he has managed to make his way firmly under the u.s. umbrella, he`s walking a very fine line, and can ill afford anything OTHER than friendly rhetoric towards iran. but anyone who is familiar with assad`s past, his general tendencies, and his ideals...has a pretty strong hunch about what his ultimate goals are; and if he`s successful, they WILL lead to a break with iran. when judging assad, it`s important to keep in mind when he ascended to power; much of it was retained, by default, by senior members of the military and his father`s government. and considering his recent stirring towards israel and the west, it`s propably safe to assume that those entities no longer exist. that leaves iran as his sole obstacle; and he`s working on that...give him time. |
