| The real losers were the people of Gaza, but let`s look deeper: Israel had two aims, one formally announced and the other widely leaked: to stop the rocket fire and to destroy Hamas. Hamas wasn`t destroyed. And does anyone believe that the rockets will stop after this? For Hamas it`s not so obvious: the only aim clearly announced was to get a ceasefire. Which they seem to have got. What about other achievements? - lots of Palestinians killed - Israeli leaders unable to travel outside Israel for fear of prosecutions - tens of thousands more Gazans with relatives killed by Israel: easy recruiting for Hamas - Fatah weakened, probably fatally: more strength to Hamas - Israel showed the world that it doesn`t care how many Palestinians it killed. Hamas may or may not have won, but Israel certainly lost. |
