| obama`s challenge will be to impose his will on the radicals, including iran and syria. while the us has the ability to pressure israel by threatening to decrease military assistance, it has no such ready made pressure against iran. syria has already declared that it will not abandon its relationship with iran, or its support of terrorist groups it hosts in damascus. russia`s navy is sitting in syria`s ports. the present world power configuration is the radical regimes of iran-syria, supported by russia, opposed by as of yet unformed coalition of moderate middle east countries and the us, with europe chiming in. israel is being used, as in the past, for the regional and superpower struggles of other countries. it can be predicted that iran will not give up voluntarily its nuclear weapons program or its support of terror. it is illusiory to think that there are pragmatists in the regime who would renounce the original aims of the islamic revolution. |
