"Daoud Shihab, the Islamic Jihad official, said other smaller militant groups have also agreed to join the truce." - Haaretz
It would appear that Hamas is stronger now in that it`s enemies in Gaza are quick to follow it`s lead.
During the final week, Abbas changed his tune, but whether his change from tacit support to outright criticism of Israel`s Gaza War came quickly enough to staunch the shift in opinion towards Hamas cannot be known quite yet.
Having essentially shot it`s wad in Gaza, Israel will now have to consider some negotiated solution with the Palestinians.
As they have wasted Mr. Abbas, they had better consider talking to Mr. Haniyeh.
He will be a much tougher man to negotiate with. . . . Something Israel should have considered the last few years as they blew off Mr. Abbas.
Or, the war can go on a few more generations.
As only one nation in the world can change anything in the Occupied Territories, it is Israel`s choice to make. |
