The onus is still on the Israel: it has the ball. If Hamas continues rockets, that is NO EXCUSE for Israel to continue targeting Palestinian civilians. (And even before the armed attacks, the blockade sanctions that cut down supplies of food, health care, electricity, and fuel, that left Gaza swimming in sewage, were targeting Palestinian civilians. There can be no question about that.)
If Hamas sends more rockets, the decent, informed people of the world are not going to say further attacks by Israel of the type the world has seen in the last three weeks are justified.
Israel will have to find another way. HINT: Atop harming Palestinian civilians, open the crossings and resume supplies, stop the arrests in the West Bank that result in IDF killings of Palestinians and bring about rocket retaliation from Gaza. |
