In 1963 Indonesia occupied Western New Guinea, and annexed it in 1969 after a rigged semi-referendum. Since then, more than a million Javanese come to live there, already outnumbering the indigenous population. Javanese have no historical presence in New Guinea. It`s a settlement program far outdoing anything Israelis ever dreamed of for the West Bank. The Indonesian protests are what psychologists call `projection:` trying to deflect blame or guilt for your own crimes by making a fuss about another`s lesser misdeeds. |
